PANCHKULA

     Panchkula district has the Morni Hills - the only hill station of Haryana; a charming and peaceful place. During the monsoon season, a carpet of lush green grass covers the hillside which makes them excellent grazing ground for the black buck and Neelgai. PANIPAT

     The district is situated at a distance of 85 kms from New Delhi. The place is very important from historic point of view. The great battle of Panipat was held in this place which changed the fate of Indian history. The Mughal Empire was established in 15th century AD. Now the place is a flat dusty plain consisting of interesting havelis and a 14th century tomb dedicated to the Sufi saint Qalandar Shah. JYOTISAR

     Jyotisar is believed to be the site where Lord Krishna had delivered the Holy Scripture Bhagwad Gita to Arjun. The site lies some 12 km from Kurukshetra on the Pehowa road.

Jyotisar has fine water bodies, bathing ghats and small temples. The marble image of Lord Sri Krishna and Arjun is carved in such a way that Lord Krishna explaining to Arjun, the doctrine of Karma through the Gita Updesh. A banyan (believed to be an off-shoot of the original tree under which the Lord gave His Sermon) gives shade to the area.

THANESAR

     Thanesar is one of the most important pilgrimages of Haryana famous for its temples. The city derives its name from Sthan-esvar or the abode of God (Shiva). Temples of Maa Bhadra Kali and Sthanesvar Mahadev are situated near the town and attract thousands of devotees during Navratra festival. The presiding deity of Sthan-esvar temple is Lord Shiva. A gurudwara is present opposite to the temple and was visited by Guru Teg Bahadur.

PEHOWA

     Pehowa is 27 km west of Thaneswar. It is on the left bank of the river Saraswati and is famous for various temples. The town derives its name from king Prithu. There is a legend that after the demise of his father, king Prithu sat on the side of river Saraswati and offered water to the visitors. Hence the site came to be known as Prithudaka or Prithu's pool. By the passage of time the place got the name Pehowa from Prithudaka. Pehowa is famous for temple of Lord Shiva. Unlike other Shiva temples of India it has no linga inside. Rather the temple has a Panch Mukhi (five faced) idol of Lord Shiva which is said to be one of its kinds in the country.

KURUKSHETRA
 
     Kurukshetra is a religious hot spo tof the Hindus. Tourists from all over the country visit the venue of the Mahabharata war and the birth place of the “Bhagvad Gita”. There are some 360 Tirthas of religious and historic importance situated in this city. Out of these about 134 tirthas are being maintained by Kurukshetra Development Board, Kurukshetra. Building on its historical and cultural traditions, Kurukshetra has been developed to a modern city dotted with temples and monuments. Some of the prime destinations in the town include Brahma Sarovar, Sri Krishna Museum and Science Museum (Panorama) depicting the history and archeology of Kurukshetra
 
BRAHMA SAROVAR
 
     Brahma Sarovar is a vast water body which has a temple in the centre dedicated to Sarveshwar Mahadev (Lord Shiva). The eastern section of the tank is 1800 ft long and 1500 ft wide while the western section is a square of 1500 ft length and 1500 ft breadth. The tank is 15 ft deep. This large water body is edged with 20 ft wide platforms, stairs and a 40 ft wide ‘parikarma’. A number of meditation chambers have been built for the convenience of pilgrims.
 

SHEETLA MATA TEMPLE         

     Gurgaon is a fast growing modern city of India known for its booming IT and software industry. It houses world famous IT companies like Huges Software, Tata Consultancy Service, Alcatel, HCL, Siemens, GE Capital, Silicon Graphics etc. The principal buildings of interest in Gurgaon city include Cawn Sarai, Nehru Stadium and Kamla Nehru Park. About 1.0 km away from the Gurgaon city is a village by the same name which is known far and wide for its temple of Sheetla Mata. While you are making trip to Gurgaon, a visit to this temple is a must. The city’s other Hindu temples are Shiv Temple and Sheesh Mahal.

SULTANPUR BIRD SANCTUARY

     Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is a serene place in Gurgaon widely visited by tourists who have interests in bird watching. It has facilities like hideouts, watch towers, bird museum and even binoculars for hire. The sanctuary was opened in 1972 in a sprawling 44.5 hectare area.More than a 100 different species of birds have been identified here. Of these, the most outstanding visitors have often winged in from Europe and Siberia.

SOHNA

     Sohna is another attraction in Gurgaon district located on Delhi-Alwar highway. Standing on the Aravali Hills, Sohna looks out at a wide panoramic view of the plains below it. Sohna has been blessed with landscaped gardens and an exclusive Hut complete with its own sitting area and an attached kitchen. A hotel wing has been built here, where air-conditioned rooms are available. In February the Statesman Vintage Car Rally vends it way to the Sohna hill and Haryana Tourism celebrates the day with a Mela event.


ADVENTURE TOURISM

     Adventure Tourism is very popular in Haryana. Adventure Sports like Rock Climbing, Trekking, River Rafting, and Parasailing are such events held in different places in the state. The enthralling ride in the air under Parasailing and Para Gliding may stop your breathe before you land. Pinjore Aviation Club is a famous name for Parasailing rides for years. The rock climbing at “Damdama” is an unforgettable experience for any one going for the same. Canoeing or kayaking in the river Yamuna from Panota Sahib to Hathnikund is really enthralling.

 
BABA FARID'S TOMB

     Faridabad city is believed to have derived its name from an eminent Sufi saint – Baba Farid. His tomb is situated in the city which is a popular pilgrimage for local Muslims. Some people believe that Baba Farid was the founder of Faridabad.

SURAJKUND

     It is a magnificent picnic spot, situated in the district of Faridabad. The town is only 21 kms from Delhi. The historic reservoir of Surajkund was built in 10th century by the king Surajpal of Rajput Tomar dynasty. Nearby, you can see the artificial lake which is built exclusively for the purpose of boating. The Rajhans Complex at Surajkund offers rock climbing. In the first week of February, a famous craft mela is held here; artisans from all over India come here to sell their creations.

BADKHAL LAKE

     The picturesque lake of Badkhal is situated in Badkhal village just 32 km from Delhi. The main attractions here are the large water bodies encompassed by Aravalli Hills. Winter season brings migratory birds from far west. Bird watching and boating are common among visitors. Facilities like Motel Wings, Restaurant, Bar, Conference hall, Minivet huts, Boating, Filling station, Bath complex (with swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, massage) and kiosks with snacks are available here. It takes hardly 30 minutes from the national capital – Delhi to reach the spot.

TOWN PARK

     This is a widely visited park in Faridabad district. The lush green lawns and a variety of trees are the main attraction of the park.

GOLF TOURISM

     Golf tourism is gaining popularity in Haryana. Aravali golf course is one such golf course near Faridabad which has significantly promoted Golf among the masses of Haryana. The course has a club house which has facilities of bar and restaurant. Further expansion plan of the Club includes putting up a motel with 6 rooms, a lounge and a card room. The course with its club house spreads over 67 acres and has a 9-hole facility, tees and greens
 
CHANDIGARH
 
The pulsating city of Chandigarh provides an entire plethora of tourist destinations. The architectural ambience of the city was a creation of the great French architect - Le Corbusier. The famous Rose and Rock garden of the city are the foremost destinations for tourists to witness scenic beauty. The art and culture of the city is also incredible. The city is a destination for thousands of devotees of Hindu and Sikh religions.
 
 The city is the state capital of both Punjab and Haryana and itself a union territory. Places of tourist interest here include the Secretariat, High Court, State Library, Assembly Chambers, University, Botanical Garden, the beautiful Sukhna lake, besides Asia's largest Rose garden - Zakir Gulab Bagh, spread over 30 acres of land, boasting of 50,000 rose plants of 1600 different species.
 
 Chandigarh was the first ‘planned’ city in India. It has neatly laid out roads and parks, buildings ranging against mountain peaks, boulevards and streets lined by endless number of trees and shrubs. Spread over an area of 114 sq. kms, it is a modern city.
